About This Anchorage

The outer anchorage of Bahia de Cabo San Lucas, directly in front of the marina and the famous El Arco at Land's End. Free anchoring with dinghy access to the marina dock. The iconic finish for the Baja Ha-Ha and the gateway to the Sea of Cortez — dramatic scenery, sea lions on the rocks, and the buzz of a resort town a dinghy ride away.

Highlights

  • El Arco — the iconic arch at Land's End visible from the anchorage
  • Sea lion colony on the rocks at Pelican Rock — close enough to watch from deck
  • Dinghy access to IGY Marina dock — restaurants, chandleries, shops
  • Whale watching — blue and humpback whales pass close to Land's End December–March
  • Snorkeling at Lover's Beach — accessible by panga from the anchorage
  • Baja Ha-Ha finish line — fleet arrivals in November transform the anchorage

Cautions & Notes

  • Bay open to S–SE — chubascos can create dangerous surge, especially June–October
  • Avoid during hurricane season (June–October) — consider marina for safety
  • Ferry traffic between anchorage and Playa El Médano — stay clear of the lane
  • Crowded November–April: 100–150 boats; set anchor carefully and check neighbors
  • Dinghy dock fee at IGY Marina: ~$5–10/day
  • Strong NW surge occasionally penetrates — snubber or stern anchor helps
